Welcome to the PhD course “Apparatus: Writing” - a one-week writing workshop from 21 - 25 March 2021

In order to subscribe to the course, you must have a fully developed chapter or article ready to circulate by 14. March 2021.

This workshop allows you to receive critique on, and if necessary workshop, advanced texts of PhD production (peer review articles, thesis chapters) with specialist reviewers and with your peers. Issues addressed can vary according to the nature of the work presented, but we will cover everything from the issues of co-authoring, writing fluency, clarity and economy. Typical exercises included re-writing to reduce word count, syntax checks, “killing your darlings”, refining the relationship between texts and footnotes and entertaining alternative models in terms of form or mediation genre.

Monday and Tuesday 10.00 – 16.00: Presentation of all chapters

Wednesday: Group critique and individual work

Thursday: Individual work

Friday: Final Presentations of revised chapters (including supervisors)
