Apparatus: Reading

Workshop 2: Situating your research as a contribution to a field

Due: Revised reading list, 5 of 25 annotations, to be uploaded in the BOX-folder before the course

** Time update. We will begin at 9.00 am (not 10.00 am) and have one hour of class discussion.

From 10.15 - 11.00 we will follow Jonathan Romm’s Trial Lecture in A2.

11.00 - 12.00 we will continue our class discussion.

In-class discussions and exercises will answer two fundamental questions: What is a research question (RQ)? What is a literature review? Exercises include close readings of example RQs and lit reviews to better understand the genre of these forms of academic writing, to apply to your own projects. We will practice revising (e.g., narrowing the scope of) your reading list and RQs to help you write a literature review that is based on your contribution to a field (or related fields).
