Group Room 3
The 2015-2016 PhD School is hosting an open screening and discussion of the 1972 documentary film Reyner Banham Loves Los Angeles (BBC Films Production, 52 minutes). Jérémie McGowan will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards within the framework of the PhD School's CONTEXT seminars on "Fieldwork" (for which this film is essential viewing). We will approach this film as a form of "precedent study" for further exploring ways in which we might think about and do fieldwork in architecture, design, urbanism and landscape studies (and related creative/academic disciplines).
We hope very much that staff and students from across the school will be interested and able to attend. Reyner Banham is a key figure in the history/theory of design, architecture and urbanism, with this film additionally presenting an engaging example of alternative/performative research practice in action. In terms of cross-school relevance, it doesn't get much better than that! And the sound track is pretty good too...
All welcome!
